PMS (Property Management System)
A property management system (PMS) is all-in-one software for running a rental business: reservations, guest communication, channel management, payments, housekeeping, and reporting in one platform. It’s built for hosts and property managers who want a single system to operate day to day, usually at a higher monthly cost than a single-purpose tool.
A full PMS typically bundles a channel manager, a booking engine, payment processing, task or housekeeping scheduling, and owner or team reporting. That breadth is the appeal for larger portfolios, and also the reason it costs more and takes longer to set up than a tool that does one job.
Independent hosts with one to a few properties often don't need the whole bundle - website availability and direct bookings can be handled by a lighter, focused tool instead, without paying for channel management, housekeeping scheduling, or reporting features they won't use.
Why it matters for hosts
